GCSE Results - increase in attainment and progress

We are delighted to announce that our students have achieved the best results that the school has seen since the reformed qualifications and changes to accountability measures were introduced. 

We have seen an increase in students' attainment and progress in almost every measure. Those achieving at least five passes at GCSE including both English and Maths has risen to 71%. Seventy four percent of students achieved a strong pass (at least a level 5) in English and 55% in Maths. Almost one third of English grades were higher grades 9 to 7, with approximately 60% of grades across all subjects being graded as ‘strong’ passes 9-5. We are delighted to have seen an increase of 10-15% in terms of attainment across many of our subject areas. 

Whilst it is important to recognise and celebrate excellent attainment, it is difficult to make comparisons year on year or between schools nationally, as different cohorts begin at varying starting points. Therefore, as well as ensuring that all students gain the minimum requirements for English and Maths, alongside at least three other qualifications, we believe that the most important measure relates to how much progress students make during their time with us. We are an inclusive school and work hard to challenge and support students from right across the ability range. Although a progress measure will not be known for some time, early indications show that the progress made by students from all starting points looks strong. 

Jo Meloni (Headteacher)  commented, “I am delighted with this year's results, not only for the young people who have worked so hard to achieve them but for the many staff who have worked tirelessly to support, challenge and encourage them to do their best. As one student put it,  

“I didn’t understand before just how hard the teachers work, they always believed in me, thank you”. 

Jo continued, “we have always believed that we are a good school with great students and supportive families, these results, alongside our A Levels, support that statement.  

However, we are so much more than just our results. Students who attend The Misbourne are given opportunities to grow and develop as young citizens, leaders and entrepreneurs, with the kind of creative, analytical and problem-solving skills that will enable them to succeed in life. I would like to wish every one of them who took exams this year, huge success in their chosen pathways and for those who are joining us in our Sixth Form, I am just as much looking forward to seeing how they grow as individuals over the next two years, as I am to what they can achieve in their next set of qualifications.”
